Overview

This module addresses the basic concepts behind the various aspects of cyber-security such as: data privacy, integrity, and security as a whole in the context of Industry 4.0, cyber-physical production systems, and connected industry. Last but not least the module also provides an insight into the role of AI in strengthing security in Industry 4.0.

Learning objectives
Understand and explain the fundamental concepts of computer security, including data availability, integrity and confidentiality, and their interrelations, in the context of cyber-physical systems and the industrial Internet of Things (IoT).
Become familiar with the standards used for risk analysis, and the concept of fault tolerance.
Get an overview of mitigation measures proposed by various standards, the tools available for implementation of data integrity, and the idea of neural networks over encrypted data.
Module structure

Learning material consist of recorded audio-visual lectures (2 to 4 lectures of 1-2h each), plus slides and other learning materials like book chapters, papers, links to instructional videos, and self-assessment tests.

Targeted participants
  • Beginners interested in learning about basics of security in cyber-physical systems and industry 4.0.
Time commitment

To complete this module, the participant is expected to schedule approximately 4 hours per week over 5 weeks (20 hours in total).
